Ed Barrows

Ed Barrows is Professor of the Practice of Leadership and Academic Director of the Master’s in Organizational Leadership at Brown University’s School of Professional Studies, where he brings more than 25 years of experience in leadership, strategy, and organizational development to executive and graduate learners. As lead faculty for Brown Executive Education and several professional master’s programs, he teaches and designs courses that focus on leader development, strategic thinking, ethical behavior, and effective organizational practice. His leadership coaching work supports rising and senior leaders across sectors in strengthening their leadership capacity and accelerating their professional growth.

Before joining Brown, he served as a Managing Director at Duke Corporate Education, where he designed and delivered leadership development programs for a portfolio of FORTUNE 1000 clients. Earlier in his career, he held key roles at Deloitte, General Electric, PwC, and the Palladium Group, and he has taught at Harvard University, Boston College, and Babson College.

A veteran of Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, Ed served as a logistics officer in the U.S. Marine Corps for over twenty years, commanding at the platoon, detachment, and company levels and working in the Pentagon before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He is the co-author of two books, including Twelve Skills: The guide to becoming a strong leader and accelerating your career (2023), and is an ICF-certified executive coach. An enthusiastic pizza maker and student of theology, he enjoys exploring both the culinary arts and the spiritual traditions that shape human sensemaking.
