Teresa Nelson

Teresa founded the business consulting firm Diversity North Group a decade ago while a tenured business school faculty member to share academic research findings on the theory and methods of management with practitioners. She is committed to bridging science-based research on innovation, engagement, and performance to organizational practice. Recent clients of the company include the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, The Massachusetts Cultural Council, Cullinan Therapeutics, and Trillium Asset Management.
As an academic, Teresa taught on five continents and spent nearly a decade each with a focus on China, and then the European Union. Among other appointments, Teresa served on the Boston Biotech Working Group under the leadership of former MIT President Susan Hockfield; as Senior Director of Research and Policy for Astia, a start-up investment fund; and as a global scholar for the University of Quebec, at Montreal. Under the Obama Administration she held a seat on the 13-member National Women’s Business Council whose purpose is to advise the White House and Congress on issues of women as business owners.
While her early career in strategy focused on organizational and competitive dynamics, her work as an MBA and undergraduate professor deepened her engagement with how people build careers. She emphasizes that organizations aiming for superior business performance must recognize, develop, and support good managers who can integrate career development and employee engagement into business productivity goals.
